Lactation Consultation
$350 (in person) or $300 (virtual)
2 hr consultation + 1 week of follow-up by email or text
Meet with a Certified Lactation Counselor® (CLC) on the Boston Area Doulas team. Our CLCs provide education, counseling, planning and real-time feedback. Lactation consultations can include:
Latch and positioning support
Weighted feed (in-person only)
Customized plans to help with feeding goals
Breast pump flange measurements and guidance on pump use
Instruction on paced bottle feeding
Troubleshoot challenges with bottle or breast
Burping and soothing after feeds
Payment Options:
Lactation consultants can be covered with a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) debit card.
Some employers are subsidizing doula services through programs like Carrot. Ask your employer about doula subsidy options.
When you schedule your appointment, you will be asked for payment in order to book the visit(s). We provide a receipt. You can use this if you are seeking reimbursement through your insurance company. We recommend you call your insurance company to check about eligibility. Many insurance companies provide reimbursement for lactation consultations. The Affordable Care Act requires health plans in the United States cover “breastfeeding support, supplies and counseling by a trained provider during pregnancy and/or in the postpartum period.” Please contact the Massachusetts Insurance Commissioner at (617) 521-7794 if you think your insurance provide is not offering appropriate coverage.
