Hello! At Boston Area Doulas, we take pride in providing families with compassionate, evidence-based and non-judgmental support.

boston area doulas team

Kathleen—Boston Area Doulas founder and agency owner— takes care of the marketing, referring families to you, contracts, invoicing, and having the initial phone call with clients to see what they’re looking for. You get to focus on the heart of doula work— relationships and support.

We offer sustainable pay for doula work and know that it is important to be part of a team that supports one another and is always learning and growing. Our doula team also offers independent contractor a space to debrief births, discuss best practices, and hold space to process challenging situations.

We are looking for doulas who:

  • Can provide nonjudgmental, unbiased support to families, rather than preferring a particular type of birth, parenting approach, or newborn care philosophy.

  • Proudly serve families of all races, sexual orientations, gender identities, marital status, ages, immigration status and family configurations.

  • Are certified in the domain they’re serving (birth and/or postpartum), or are interested in finishing their certification. Reach out to Kathleen (kathleen@bostonareadoulas.com) to learn about options for certification. Please reach out to Kathleen if you have financial concerns to certification. Looking for a doula training and certification path? There are a range of options, including birth doula trainings and postpartum doula trainings here.

  • Have your own business entity, LLC OR DBA. Kathleen can give you more information on this.

  • Can pass an external background check.

  • Have at least 3 families they’ve supported who can speak to their qualitifications.

At this moment, we are looking to add the right people for the following roles:

  • birth doulas (working in partnership with another doula to support a pregnant person)

  • daytime postpartum doula (can do at least 2 4-hr shifts a week)

  • overnight postpartum doula (could do at least 2 or 3 8-hr nights a week)

Independent Contractor Application Process:

Step 1: Complete initial application (click here).

Step 2: Interview with Kathleen.

Step 3: Read through IC Info Kit (ex: doula expectations, what it’s like on our team, etc.), and additional information to apply.

Step 4: Kathleen will initiate a background check and talk to at least 3 of references. Kathleen will check your credentials, make a decision about inviting you to join our team, and then get you set up with Boston Area Doulas families!

Doula work can be all-encompassing.

It is sustainable when you have a support system and community.

Our team has formal and informal ways of connecting with each other.
