Hi! I’m Reese, a birth doula on the Boston Area Doulas team. I was inspired to become a doula from an early age, 16, after I witnessed my aunt's labor experience. She had to be induced due to medical concerns, and even then, she was still trying to take care of everyone else around her. When I learned how doulas compliment medical care with physical, emotional and informational support, I knew that I wanted to dive in and help birthing people feel that support. Before moving to Boston, I worked as a volunteer doula at the University of North Carolina Birth Partners program. I worked as a Nursing Assistant and pharmacy technician. At UNC Chapel Hill, I studied bioethics and worked at the Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma and Lung Biology. I bring my long standing passion for supporting others into my birth doula work.
My advice to new/expecting parents: Not everything is going to go according to plan. You're learning, and the baby is also learning. Give yourself grace. Be kind to yourself..
When I’m not doula-ing, I enjoy working out, especially Crossfit. I used to really enjoy painting, and I'm trying to get back into it. I'd love to get into pottery as well.
Childhood aspirations: Marine Biologist, Doctor
