Hi! I’m Morgan, a birth doula on the Boston Area Doulas team. As a doula, my sole purpose is to support you in having a safe and satisfying childbirth as you define it. My primary loyalty is to my client, fostering your autonomy and self-determination to define and achieve a good birth. To partners, I offer experience with the birth process, modeling support for the birthing person while allowing the partner to participate as they feel comfortable. While I do not provide medical care, I do help parents safeguard their birth, their space, their story.

I am a DONA-trained birth doula. In college, I majored in anthropology in college, focusing on midwifery and infertility. I went on to earn a Masters in Social Work, and was happiest working with teens in therapeutic settings and foster group homes with many questions about sex. When I started my own family, I returned to reading about birth. I learned through my own deliveries just how strange and wonderful birth can be;  I wanted to learn more. I began attending perinatal health conferences and workshops, and found I really enjoyed talking birth all day.

My advice to new/expecting parents: Think carefully about what will make you feel cared for and supported during the birth and after. Not everyone needs the same tools.

When I’m not doula-ing, I love running, cooking (mostly baking sourdough), and hiking in Acadia. I live in Jamaica Plain with my husband, 13 year old (partial abruption, induction, epidural, breastfed with formula supplementing until age three) and 10 year old (car baby, nursed until 14 months old).

Check out what one of Morgan’s families said about her:

“In the months leading up to the birth, Morgan took the time to help us parse all the information we were learning from prenatal classes, books, and other sources. She also walked us through the hospital process, which helped ease our anxiety by making us feel that we weren't going in blind. During the birth, Morgan was a lifesaver for both of us. She went out of her way to soothe Sarah's discomfort and anxiety using personalized methods; helped us interpret everything the doctors and nurses were telling us; assisted the nurses in physically supporting Sarah during labor; and made sure I had time to communicate with our families and get some rest. We experienced a longer labor than expected, and we can't imagine how we would've gotten through it without Morgan. She remained a calming, supportive, and knowledgeable presence every step of the way. After the birth, Morgan followed up with us several times to make sure we were adjusting to life at home and taking care of ourselves.”
