Hi! I’m Jane (she/her), the owner of Boston Area Doulas. I am a certified postpartum doula and prenatal yoga instructor. In all of my roles, I am here to be a passionate resource and advocate for new and expecting parents. My approach is rooted in the belief that every parent deserves a strong community and the tools they need to thrive.
Through the magical, difficult, exhausting, and amazing experience of becoming a mother, I realized that I really wanted to help families during one of life’s most profound transitions. I was lucky enough to have a doula during my own pregnancy and postpartum experience (Kathleen Stern, founder of Boston Area Doulas). This helped me appreciate the need for non-judgmental emotional and practical support. When I found doula work, it became clear that I could use my research-minded brain and love of people to help provide direct, compassionate support for new and growing families.
A little bit more about me:
Growing up I always thought I wanted to be a teacher, but realized during undergrad that I really loved scientific research.
I completed my PhD in Biomedical Science at UCSD with the goal to ultimately help people through my work. I started my career in biotech, working to advance new therapies for patients suffering from rare diseases.
During graduate school, I become certified as a yoga instructor and taught classes when I wasn’t in the lab. I have always respected all approaches to wellness, both medical and holistic.
In my role as agency owner, I leverage my experiences in biotech, where I focused on building comprehensive strategy for business growth, working with all types of personalities, building partnerships between internal teams and external collaborators and working to ensure that all parties have a voice.
I live in Swampscott with my husband Josh, my son Adrian, and our two dogs (a greyhound and a 16 pound mutt).
I grew up in Connecticut, but my parents now live in San Diego, so I claim Southern California as home. I have two older sisters and a younger brother.
When I’m not working, I’m mostly spending time chasing my energetic toddler. I love to cook, bake, move my body, and I’ll admit it, I do enjoy some reality TV.
