Hi! I’m Julie, a postpartum doula on the Boston Area Doulas team. I have a son and a daughter (both now teens) and each was a very different pregnancy and birth experience, and they have continued to be very different every day since. Additionally, prior to becoming a doula, I had extensive experience working as an early childhood educator such that both my personal life and professional life have been focused on supporting young families for the past 20 years. My pregnancies and births were among the most wonderful experiences of my life. They were also not easy and I wish I had had the support of a doula. It’s important to have a community to help you through the entire birth and postpartum processes and I want to provide that for people during the beautiful transition into parenthood.

Childhood aspirations: Teacher or midwife

My advice to new/expecting parents:  Expect the unexpected. Parenting is a journey where you learn something new about yourself (and partner if applicable) everyday. Try to accept everything that comes your way with an open heart.

When I’m not doula-ing, I enjoy cooking, tending my vegetable garden, yoga, and spending time with my family.

Check out what one of Julie’s families said about her:

“Picking the right doula for you and your family is one of the most important decisions that you will ever make. This is a joyous, beautiful yet potentially challenging time in your life.  You want to have the perfect person to support and advocate for you during this life-changing event. I am confident that Julie Savage is that Doula. Julie is calm, warm, dependable, and smart. Julie is the person that I would want to have by my side as my advocate, confidant, and supporter…Julie taught my daughter, ‘I am strong, I am confident, I am smart, and I have heart!’ I will forever be grateful for the foundation and love of learning that Julie instilled in my daughter.  My family is forever changed by having Julie a part of it. “
