Hi, I’m Heather, a birth and postpartum/infant care doula on the Boston Area Doulas team. How did you become a doula? Growing up, I wanted to a teacher and mother of all the babies. I had two very different births 13 years apart (first birth- my twins, second birth- my baby boy). I’ve always had a passion for families and being in a helper role. Being able to support folx during one of the most amazing and intimate moments of their lives is so fulfilling to me.
A little about Heather: Heather is a queer Full-Spectrum doula. She has worked with children much of her life and had an 18 year career in education. Although Heather serves many families, she is passionate about working within the LGBTQ+ community and bringing awareness to the many inconsistencies birthing folx in this community face. Heather has a trauma-informed and evidence-based practice. As a full spectrum doula, she is able support clients through abortion, fertility & birth planning, birth, postpartum support and more. She serves the greater Boston area, as well as Southern New Hampshire, and also provides virtual support.
Her advice to families: Remember to put your oxygen mask on first, always.
Outside of doula work Heather is a fierce advocate in the disability community and the IVF/Fertility community and enjoys cooking and thrifting/antiquing.Heather lives just outside of Boston with her wife and their 3 children (including a set of twins).
Check out what one of Heather’s families said about her:
“My partner and I were expecting our first little one and I wanted some support for when we got home from the hospital. From the first zoom consultation call, I knew Heather would be a fit for us. She was straightforward with what to expect, how she would communicate, and her availability. Heather's background as an educator shines as a doula. She was always a welcome reality check, which is much needed in the newborn vortex. As a first time parent, there is nothing better to hear than "that is completely normal". Heather's grounded sense of humor and warmth was always appreciated. And most of all, she was a kind, supportive ear that was dependable and accessible.” -Postpartum client
