Hi! I’m Ellie, a birth and postpartum doula on the Boston Area Doulas team. Being a doula allows me to combine many of my favorite things: being intimately connected to other people, deeply listening, providing emotional and educational support, and working to make the world a more equitable and just place. I am committed to asking important questions and listening deeply, allowing me to respond to your needs and desires in the best way possible. I balance gentle energy with direct and confident communication. I am a natural advocate, relationship builder, and caretaker.
As a second-generation Doula, I am passionate about accompanying birthing people during their entire perinatal journey. Being a former educator, childcare worker, crisis manager, and current people and program director with almost ten years of non-profit experience, I am no stranger to handling stressful situations. I have cultivated my comforting, grounding presence and ability to remain calm and positive, and have seen how easy it can be to lose each other's humanity in these tense moments. I am dedicated to keeping your dignity at the front of my mind… always. I am committed to building trust with each person I meet, listening deeply to your stories, and asking (not assuming) what would feel most supportive to you.
As a transformative justice practitioner and community organizer, being a doula is more than just being there for individual birthing people; it is a way to work towards a more equitable healthcare system. It is essential to recognize the history of how racism and slavery continue to impact our current healthcare system, especially in maternal medicine. Doula work is a powerful way for me to live out my anti-racist values using my natural gifts and learned skills, and to support more equitable and inclusive birthing experiences for all.
My advice to new/expecting parents: Take a deep breath! And remember this is all new, like anything new, it takes time and practice, AND people behind you supporting you and loving you through it. Bonus tip: everyone will have an opinion, find ways to quiet the voices, and ask yourself what feels best to YOU!
When I’m not doula-ing, I love to move my body, especially doing yoga, barre and running. I also enjoy giving thrifted clothes a good second (or third or fourth) home, and being with my chosen family and friends. In addition, I drive to keep a consistent meditation and mindfulness practice, including embodiment practices, all of which support me in my doula work.
Childhood aspirations: Hairdresser , teacher, anything that would let me talk to people
Check out what one of Ellie’s families said about her:
“Ellie was a great person to ask questions. She was really available by text, phone in pregnancy, and was really proactive. She shared a ton of resources with me. At my baby’s birth, she worked well with other people in the room. She is very responsive and lovely!”
