My name is Avery and I am a birth doula and postpartum doula on the Boston Area Doulas team. My goal is to listen to you and support you in preparing for a dignified, confident, and whole-person centered experience for your pregnancy journey. I aim to support the pregnant person and partners holistically, with empathy and awareness of everyone's unique needs. I laugh easily and work hard to foster trust, transparency, and a sense of belonging for all my clients.
Before becoming a doula, I got my Masters’ degree at Boston University School of Public Health. I was immediately ignited by the topics covered in my Maternal & Child Health coursework and went on to my first job in the non-profit space to focus on infant mortality, lactation and safe sleep practices, and quality improvement in hospital settings. At the same time, I became deeply involved in pro-choice advocacy work in Massachusetts and have since spent a great deal of time in the community hosting interactive awareness events and fundraisers to build support for protected and expanded abortion access in our state. Being a full-spectrum doula has allowed me to merge my public health training and advocacy into one role. Currently, I am a doula and also work as a Program Manager in Reproductive Healthcare.
You deserve to be heard, listened to, and believed. As a full spectrum doula, I promote autonomy, equity and quality of care. My goal is to help clients have better birth experiences and outcomes, and be part of the reproductive care system that ensures you can access the full continuum of choices and informed-decision making that is right for your body, family, and needs. I am trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming and dedicated to racial and reproductive justice. I am committed to advocating for more inclusive, dignified and affirming pregnancy experiences for all people. I also love integrating non-birthing parents/partners and support people into birth and postpartum care plans.
When not doing doula work, you can find me in a pottery studio trying to convince clay to become a vase, going for fast-paced walks towards coffee shops, or spending time with my partner testing out complicated dessert recipes!
Check out what one of Avery’s families had to say about her:
"My husband and I were so fortunate to have Avery as our doula. Whenever we were unsure about something, she helped us to weigh the pros and cons and helped us to feel empowered in making decisions for our birth plan. Leading up to the birth, Avery provided continuous support that went above and beyond and helped guide us through every question we had. Her calm words helped me through those final ups and downs and the whirlwind of changes that happened to my birth plan before birth. Avery provided incredible emotional support to us both. She became our best advocate when there was so much else going on physically and emotionally for the both of us. I truly do not believe I could have had the pregnancy or birth experience I did without Avery; she brought light, joy and positivity to the entire process. Avery's calm voice, gentle touch, constant reminders and never ending love got me through what was undeniably the hardest thing I have ever done. In a heartbeat, I would have Avery as my doula for future pregnancies."
